After vandalism at the cemetery, police will increase surveillance at Ostend cemeteries during All Saints' weekend: "Also raise awareness among visitors"

The city and police of Ostend are increasing security at cemeteries during All Saints' and All Souls' Days due to recent vandalism. Visitors will receive tips on protecting memorial items, as 150 graves were recently damaged. The initiative, titled 'Care for What is Dear', aims to raise awareness about theft and vandalism. Police encourage reporting suspicious activities and have implemented stricter regulations regarding memorial items. Last year, rules were tightened to prevent planting in graves and to limit memorial objects, leading to unrest among families. The police will also distribute waste bags to promote cleanliness.
