Following the Spanish example, the House of Representatives calls for a media code on femicide

A majority in the Dutch Parliament urges the government to engage media organizations in creating a voluntary code on femicide reporting, inspired by Spain's approach. The proposal, led by Hanneke van der Werf from D66, follows a visit to Spain where media plays a crucial role in raising awareness about gender violence. The Dutch government cannot impose regulations but can encourage discussions on language use and context in reporting. Spanish media have established guidelines to avoid trivializing gender violence and emphasize its societal implications. The aim is to enhance public awareness of warning signs related to femicide.
