A 66-year-old woman from Bydgoszcz fell victim to an online scam, sending nearly half a million złoty to someone posing as a sailor. After weeks of building trust, she sent a first package of 126,000 złoty in January 2026. The scammer continued to request more money, promising to return it upon his return to Poland. Over several months, she sent nine cash packages. It wasn't until later that she realized she had been deceived and reported the incident to the police. Authorities warn against trusting online acquaintances and advise against sending money without verifying identities.
