Renting or buying with a mortgage? The numbers revealed a clear winner
Only a third of Czechs can imagine living their whole life in rental housing, despite it often being financially more advantageous than buying a home with a mortgage. Mortgage rates have been rising for seven consecutive months, reaching their highest level since January 2024. Many young people view property ownership as the best security for old age, while a significant portion believes rent is just wasted money. The gap between rental prices and mortgage payments is widening, particularly in Prague, where renting is now cheaper by over 11,000 CZK monthly for a typical apartment. Experts do not foresee a significant decrease in mortgage rates in the near future, suggesting a trend of slight increases instead.
