NASA volunteers back home after a year on simulated Mars mission
Four volunteers completed a year-long isolation experiment simulating life on Mars at NASA's Johnson Space Center. They were cut off from the outside world, communicating only via delayed messages. After 378 days, they celebrated their return, expressing joy at feeling the sun and reuniting with loved ones. The participants, who were not professional astronauts, managed daily tasks like plant care and equipment maintenance. The experiment aimed to gather data for future missions to the Moon and Mars, focusing on the effects of isolation and sustainable agriculture in confined spaces. NASA plans to use insights from this study for future space settlements.
