The NBP still has even 90 billion PLN in pandemic bonds. It also has a plan for them.
During the pandemic, NBP purchased bonds worth approximately 144 billion PLN, with 82 billion PLN being government bonds. Currently, around 90 billion PLN of pandemic bonds remain in NBP's balance sheet. NBP plans to hold these bonds until their maturity in 2030, as selling them earlier could disrupt the market and increase yields. This strategy aligns with practices of other central banks managing pandemic debt. The ongoing controversy surrounding NBP's bond purchases has led to calls for accountability regarding its actions during the crisis.
