Dutch foundation tries to prevent Swedish wolf hunt

Stichting Wolven Belangen has appealed in Sweden against the decision to shoot 72 wolves, demanding a halt to hunting until the court rules. This year, five Swedish districts decided to cull the wolves to reduce the population from 355 to 220. The foundation argues that the scale of the hunting decisions is unprecedented and calls for a careful assessment of the impact on the wolf population, which is protected under European nature conservation laws. The administrative court in Luleå will first determine if the Dutch organization can initiate legal action in Sweden and whether the hunting suspension request will be granted.
