The shortage of hay caused by drought increases the slaughter of cows, pigs, and chickens

From January to September this year, the number of livestock slaughtered in the Czech Republic increased slightly compared to last year, attributed to a feed shortage caused by drought. Farmers began slaughtering more animals around May due to insufficient grass growth, leading to a decrease in hay production. The slaughter of cattle rose by 1.1%, while pig and poultry slaughter also saw increases. The economic situation for farmers is challenging, with lower meat prices and a surplus of animals on the market. Analysts predict continued sales and slaughtering of livestock, with potential future shortages leading to higher prices. Farmers are preparing for future feed shortages by improving pastures and considering less intensive breeds.
