Mozambican banking foreign exchange business grows 4.7% in the third quarter to 4,280 million euros
Mozambican banks experienced a 4.7% increase in foreign exchange transactions with clients, reaching $4.893 billion in Q3 2026. The rise was attributed to extraordinary conversions and the resumption of liquefied natural gas projects. Currency purchases rose by 12.5%, while sales increased by 1.8%. The effective exchange rate remained stable at 63.91 meticais per dollar. The Bank of Mozambique plans to launch a digital platform for real-time monitoring of foreign exchange operations, aiming to enhance liquidity in foreign currency. Governor Felisberto Navalha emphasized that reported difficulties in obtaining foreign currency do not indicate a widespread shortage.
