For a few weeks, it was a cemetery in the city
In 1956, Budapest's parks became temporary cemeteries for revolution victims, but these makeshift graves were later erased by authorities. Seventy years later, memorials will be erected at three sites to honor these forgotten burials, based on amateur photographs. The initiative, led by Miklós Tamási and supported by the local government, aims to commemorate the over 2,600 victims of the revolution. The memorials will feature original photographs and are designed by architect Levente Szabó and typographer Ákos Polgárdi. Despite the lack of official records, personal accounts reveal the emotional impact of these temporary graves, which served as sites of communal mourning during the chaotic aftermath of the revolution.
