We cannot attribute the record low Danube water levels solely to climate change
The Danube River's water level has dropped significantly, reaching historical lows, which poses challenges for modern navigation. This decline, nearly two meters compared to previous years, has revealed previously unseen sandbanks, particularly noted at Nagymaros where a measurement of minus 102 centimeters was recorded. The situation echoes past dangers faced by sailors, as depicted in Mór Jókai's 1872 novel, "Az arany ember," where a ship sank due to similar hazards.
