Shortly after their birth, the twin macaroni penguins at the Budapest Zoo had to be separated.

The Budapest Zoo had to separate a pair of penguin siblings shortly after their unexpected early hatching. Ludmilla, the stronger sibling, was dominating Gizella, preventing her from eating adequately. This led to concerns about Gizella's development, prompting the zoo to temporarily remove her for hand-rearing. The zoo emphasized that such intervention is only considered in extreme cases, but they believe it will benefit both penguins in the long run. Gizella's family reportedly remained unaffected by the separation.
