Népszabadság: they would tighten the individual support for expensive medicines
A proposed legislation aims to limit individual exceptional support for expensive medications in Hungary. Manufacturers will need to justify the effectiveness and pricing of their drugs. The proposal sets a cap on individual support at approximately 92 million HUF annually, encouraging significant discounts from manufacturers and financial commitments from hospitals. This change means patient access to medications will depend on treatment necessity, cost, and institutional financial capabilities. The legislation also plans to modify the rules for regular health insurance coverage of medications, potentially allowing quicker access to new or previously unsupported drugs. The system for evaluating exceptional medication requests was recently altered, returning oversight to the health insurance authority from a previously outsourced foundation.
