Netanyahu leads in elections in Israel - without a government majority
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party leads the elections but lacks a majority in the Knesset. With 54 seats, they are ahead of the opposition led by Gadi Eisenkot with 48 seats. The election saw a high turnout of nearly 78%. Netanyahu aims to form a right-wing government, while Eisenkot warns against politicizing national security. The official results will be published soon, and President Isaac Herzog will appoint a member to attempt coalition formation within 14 days. If unsuccessful, new elections could be held by April 2027.
