NFZ demands 17,000 PLN from Ukrainians for treatment in Poland. There is a response to the intervention of the Ombudsman

Ukrainian refugees in Poland lost access to free healthcare after the expiration of a special law. Many faced high fees to obtain voluntary health insurance due to a perceived gap in coverage. The Ombudsman questioned the legality of these fees, arguing that the period under the special law should not count as a break in insurance. The NFZ clarified that Ukrainians were not considered insured under EU rules, thus justifying the fees. However, individuals can apply for fee exemptions based on financial hardship. The Ombudsman continues to seek clarity on the NFZ's practices regarding these fees.
