Walter Koenig has died. The actor from 'Star Trek' was 90 years old
Walter Koenig, the American actor famous for his role as Pavel Chekov in "Star Trek," has passed away at the age of 90. His death was confirmed by his agent. Koenig joined the cast in 1967 and appeared until the series ended in 1969, later reprising his role in six films from 1979 to 1991. Chekov, a young Russian officer, was known for his distinctive hairstyle and humorous references to Russian inventions. Koenig's character aimed to attract younger viewers and was introduced partly in response to criticism about the lack of a Russian hero. He received nominations for his performances in "Star Trek II" and "Star Trek IV." Born in Chicago to Lithuanian immigrants, Koenig studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. He was married to Judy Levitt until her death in 2022 and had a son, Andrew, who died in 2010. Koenig died in Los Angeles, leaving behind a daughter, Danielle.
