Germany wants to deter Russia with thousands of missiles for one billion euros
Germany's defense ministry is negotiating with Covenant Industries for the purchase of thousands of Anthem cruise missiles, which have a range exceeding 2,000 kilometers. The production facility in Leipzig aims to produce 1,000 missiles by the end of 2027, with a target of 5,000 annually from 2028. The Bundeswehr seeks to enhance its long-range strike capabilities, currently relying on Taurus missiles with a range of about 500 kilometers. Discussions are also ongoing with Ukraine for joint production of the Bars missile and potential contracts for Ruta missiles from Destinus SA and HS1 missiles from Hypersonica. Delays in U.S. Tomahawk and Typhon missile deliveries may extend up to five years.
