The "Impenetrable" barrier of the Earth has been breached. All due to a solar superstorm

A team led by Yoshizumi Miyoshi from Nagoya University analyzed data from the Arase satellite during a G5 geomagnetic storm in May 2024. This extreme event allowed auroras to be seen at lower latitudes, including Poland. The satellite detected high-energy electrons in unexpected areas, challenging previous assumptions about an impenetrable barrier around Earth. The storm's effects persisted for months, with electron levels significantly elevated, posing risks to satellite electronics and astronaut safety. These findings could enhance risk assessments and improve space weather forecasting.
