Not eight, but seven officers prosecuted for the death of a detainee in Rotterdam
Seven police officers are suspected of violating the use of force guidelines resulting in death, according to the Public Prosecution Service. An eighth officer, still in training, will not face charges as he was following orders from higher-ranking colleagues. The 32-year-old detainee died after being tasered and restrained for an extended period. Investigations suggest that the method of restraint may be linked to his death. The man was arrested following a traffic incident where he allegedly fled after colliding with a car. The case will be presented to the Blue Chamber, a specialized court in Utrecht, with hearings scheduled for January 19 and February 15-18.
