New slaughterhouse in Kortenaken for small-scale agricultural businesses: "We aim for the short chain"

A new slaughterhouse named Kortvlees has opened in Kortenaken, focusing on small-scale farmers of sheep, goats, and pigs. The operators, Bert and Dries Van Asbroek, aim to support local agriculture by providing short supply chains for farmers selling directly to consumers or local shops. After a year of delays and obtaining necessary approvals, they have commenced operations. Currently, Kortvlees processes sheep, lambs, goats, and pigs, while plans for beef processing are on hold due to funding and regulatory requirements. Local farmers appreciate the reduced travel distance and stress for animals, contributing to a smaller ecological footprint.
