New exhibition shows how a merchant in the 16th century made Oudenaarde the European center for tapestries

The MOU Museum Oudenaarde opens the exhibition 'Tapijtsier – The Art of Commerce', showcasing the life of entrepreneur Pieter Van Verren through authentic letters, accounts, paintings, and tapestries. Van Verren was pivotal in making Oudenaarde a European center for tapestry production in the 16th and 17th centuries, connecting artists and weavers. The exhibition highlights his business strategies and contemporary parallels with local entrepreneurs. A key feature is the tapestry 'The Glasses Seller', on loan from the Grand Curtius Museum in Liège. The exhibition runs from October 23 to March 28, 2027, with free entry for local residents on the last Sunday of each month.
