New wastewater treatment for wastewater from 29,000 residents of Ham and Leopoldsburg
A new wastewater treatment plant in Ham has been launched by Aquafin to process sewage from 29,000 residents of Ham and Leopoldsburg. The facility utilizes advanced technology to meet strict standards, purifying water within 24 hours in dry conditions and 8 hours during rain. The plant was necessary due to the previous facility's inability to handle the wastewater volume, particularly from the military area of Reigersvliet. The project cost 14 million euros and reflects significant improvements in wastewater treatment in Limburg and Flanders, achieving over 90% purification rates compared to just 25% 35 years ago.
