No one is untouchable: many men have also been sexually harassed on the street or on public transport

A recent survey commissioned by HVG reveals that street and public transport harassment is widespread, with 36% of women and 12% of men reporting experiences of sexual harassment. The highest incidence is in Budapest (34%) and the Central Hungary region (31%). In rural areas, the Central Transdanubia region shows a slightly lower rate at 18%, while other regions report 21-23%. Despite its prevalence, street harassment is not classified as a separate crime and is underreported in official statistics. The study highlights personal accounts from hundreds of women to map the phenomenon and men's accountability.
