New storm claims at least 4 lives in France and Corsica, storm Austen still to come
Severe weather in southeastern France and Corsica has resulted in four fatalities, with one person still missing. Storm Austen is expected to hit soon, exacerbating the situation. Heavy rainfall has caused unprecedented flooding, particularly in Bouches-du-Rhône. A 75-year-old man died after being swept away by floodwaters, and another victim was found in Corsica after his car was carried off. Two women, aged 86 and 26, drowned in a cave during the storm. Approximately 8,500 households lost power, and 150 people were evacuated. The first autumn storm, Austen, is forecasted to bring winds up to 140 km/h, with orange alerts issued in five departments. Spain has also reported at least five deaths due to similar weather conditions.
