New 2 euro fee on orders outside the EU
Starting Sunday, the European Union will implement a new two-euro fee on all orders from outside the bloc to mitigate the impact of online trade, particularly from China. This fee applies regardless of the order value and is in addition to an existing three-euro charge for orders under 150 euros. The fee is categorized by item type, meaning multiple items in the same category incur only one fee. The EU argues that platforms should absorb this cost, although there are no measures to prevent them from passing it on to consumers. The move comes as customs authorities face pressure from approximately five million daily orders, mostly from Chinese platforms. The goal is to cover additional customs costs and ensure compliance with EU regulations. Unlike the temporary fee introduced in July, this new charge is permanent.
