Nine people convicted of money laundering
Nine individuals, including a former insolvency administrator, were sentenced by the Penafiel Court for real estate dealings in insolvency cases, acquiring properties below market value. The actions occurred between 2012 and 2014, involving the simulation of property acquisitions in nine insolvency processes. Two defendants received effective prison sentences, while seven others received suspended sentences. The former administrator was sentenced to eight and a half years for multiple economic participation crimes and money laundering. The court also ordered the forfeiture of four properties and over 651,000 euros to the state, alongside fines for the defendants based on their illicit gains. The administrator dissipated assets to evade tax obligations totaling over 424,000 euros.
