A new brigade will oversee the Königsberg district. The military reveals its tasks
The Border Defense Component consists of four brigades responsible for managing the "Eastern Shield" infrastructure. The Warmian-Masurian Brigade will oversee the Kaliningrad Oblast. Their tasks include monitoring the border and being ready to support the border guard, transitioning to border defense. Colonel Cezary Kiszkowiak emphasized that the unit will not replace the border guard but will focus on defense. The unit is expected to be restructured by the end of the year and achieve readiness within two years. The Kaliningrad Oblast is located near the Suwalki Gap, a strategic area often referred to as NATO's Achilles' heel. Concerns have been raised about potential Russian aggression in the region, with warnings from British intelligence about possible invasion attempts.
