NSU terrorist Zschäpe remains in custody until at least 2035
Beate Zschäpe, convicted for her role in the NSU murders, will remain in prison until at least 2035 after the Munich Higher Regional Court denied her early release. The court set a minimum sentence of 24 years, considering her acknowledgment of complicity in nine out of ten murders. Zschäpe expressed remorse for her actions and distanced herself from extremist ideologies. She was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2018 for her involvement in the NSU, which killed ten people between 2000 and 2007, primarily targeting individuals with migration backgrounds. Her case will be reviewed after 15 years to assess the possibility of parole, but the court indicated that her severe culpability makes early release unlikely.
