Number of mergers and acquisitions falls 37% in Portugal in the 1st half of the year
In Portugal, mergers and acquisitions dropped by 37% in the first half of the year, totaling 82 transactions worth 800 million euros, according to Forvis Mazars. This contrasts sharply with Southern Europe, where the value of such deals rose by 37% to 147.7 billion euros. The largest deal in Portugal involved Grupo Sabseg at 600 million euros, while the second was the acquisition of Caesar Park for 140 million euros. Despite the decline, opportunities remain in smaller transactions, driven by foreign investment and sector consolidation. The report highlights that Portugal has maintained stable or increasing M&A activity since 2016, although this trend is now uncertain due to recent declines. Overall, 33 potential M&A opportunities were identified in Portugal across 12 sectors.
