The price margin of paprika was eighty percent due to the price cap
On October 27, Minister István Kapitány submitted a bill to lift the margin cap, welcomed by various organizations, including the Southern Great Plain Horticulturists' Cooperative (DélKerTÉSZ). They argue that reducing VAT is also essential for enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic fruit and vegetable sector. The cooperative highlighted the negative impact of the margin cap on fresh market prices, noting significant price discrepancies. DélKerTÉSZ's president, Sándor Nagypéter, emphasized the need for predictable regulations and suggested a VAT reduction from 27% to 5% for fresh produce. He believes this could significantly improve competitiveness, even if implemented gradually. The president also commented on changes to retail taxes, warning of potential challenges for domestic chains and predicting a significant restructuring in the food retail market.
