An investigation has been launched regarding the Southern Ring Railway.

The Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has launched an investigation into alleged budget fraud related to the second phase of the Southern Railway Ring. This follows a report from the Ministry of Transport and Investment, which raised concerns about potential collusion in the procurement process involving a company linked to businessman Lőrinc Mészáros. The European Court of Auditors indicated that the company may have gained unfair advantages, leading to the loss of approximately 320 billion HUF in EU funding. The project has been halted, raising significant financial and technical issues, with estimates of state losses between 50-100 billion HUF. The investigation is expected to delay the re-tendering process significantly.
