The con artist who posed as Luís Castro and "took" €3,600

José Enamorado, a Colombian footballer, fell victim to a scam involving a fraudster impersonating his coach, Luís Castro. The scammer solicited money for basic food baskets, leading Enamorado to transfer funds. The police investigation, dubbed Operation Falso 9, revealed the scammer's history of targeting football figures. Enamorado had recently joined Grêmio for €2.5 million after a successful career in Colombia. The fraud was uncovered after a tip-off from teammate Walter Kannemann, but by then, Enamorado had already sent money. The case highlights the risks athletes face from impersonation scams.
