They fear a repeat of 1911. Warning of a "catastrophic flood"

Severe flood warnings have been issued for Pagosa Springs, Colorado, as the San Juan River is expected to exceed 6.1 meters. Authorities have warned of a potentially catastrophic flood, recalling the near-total destruction of the city in 1911 when levels reached 5.4 meters. Residents in low-lying areas along the San Juan and other rivers have been urged to evacuate to designated shelters. In Arizona, mandatory evacuations are in place in several areas, including Gisela, due to heavy rainfall causing flash floods. The National Weather Service has issued flood alerts for much of Arizona and parts of surrounding states, including Utah and New Mexico.
