Red Line project may proceed with new schedule
The Portuguese government approved the reprogramming of the financing and execution schedule for the expansion of Lisbon's Red Line Metro. This resolution addresses the previous blockage caused by the Court of Auditors regarding the oversight contract for the project. The Secretary of State for Transport stated that all conditions are now met to proceed with the work, which will connect São Sebastião to Alcântara. Delays were attributed to the lack of prior approval for the oversight contract and environmental assessments. Additionally, alternative funding sources were secured to cover losses from the Recovery and Resilience Plan. The project, initially ambitious, has faced multiple delays and reprogramming since its approval in 2021.
