Changes in the deposit system from January 1. Fivefold increase in the product fee

Starting January 1, 2027, the product fee in Poland will increase significantly for companies failing to meet packaging collection obligations. Currently set at 1 PLN per kilogram of missing PET bottles or cans, it will rise to 5 PLN, and potentially up to 15 PLN for those without a contract with the deposit system operator. This change aims to encourage participation in the deposit system, which has been in place since October 1, 2025, promoting the return of beverage containers. The fee increase will not affect consumers returning containers, as the deposit amount remains unchanged.
