Odivelas tests system to anticipate flood impacts

The Odivelas municipality is testing a satellite and radar-based system to monitor floods and quickly identify affected areas. The pilot project, named "Floodgate," is developed by GMV in collaboration with the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering. It aims to provide real-time data on flood extents and impacts, combining satellite imagery with hydrometeorological and geospatial information. The system will also utilize radar images to observe land surfaces under cloudy conditions. Additionally, a network of sensors has been installed in watercourses to complement the Floodgate system, enhancing data accuracy for flood response measures.
