A new comet has been discovered. "A happy coincidence"

The Euclid telescope launched by ESA in 2023 has contributed to the discovery of a new comet, C/2026 S1 (Euclid). Mikko Pontinen, a PhD student, developed software that analyzed images from Euclid, identifying a moving object surrounded by a cloud, indicating it was likely a comet. Despite attempts to match it with known celestial bodies, it was classified as a new comet after further observations. The comet is currently about 1.3 billion kilometers from Earth and follows a long orbital path through the Solar System. Experts expressed excitement over this unexpected discovery, highlighting the telescope's unique scanning capabilities.
