Plenary indulgence for the deceased. What conditions must be met?
A plenary indulgence in canon law is the remission of all temporal punishment for sins whose guilt has already been forgiven. It can be obtained for oneself or offered for the deceased, but not transferred to a living person. To obtain an indulgence for the deceased from November 1 to 8, one must visit a cemetery, pray for the dead, receive Holy Communion, pray for the Pope's intentions, be in a state of grace, and have the intention of obtaining the indulgence while detaching from all sin. Generally, a plenary indulgence can be obtained once a day. There is also a specific indulgence for November 1 and 2, obtainable by visiting a church or public chapel and reciting specific prayers.
