The president of Częstochowa, dismissed in a referendum, returned to work after 19 years of leave

Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk, ousted as Częstochowa's mayor in a referendum, returned to work at the county office after 19 years on unpaid leave. He had been deputy head of the Architectural and Construction Administration Department since 2005. His leave began in 2007 when he became an MP and was extended in 2010 after being elected mayor. Following the referendum results, he announced his intention to return, which is allowed under the law. However, he may be offered a different position due to the current deputy's appointment through a competition. Matyjaszczyk faces corruption allegations but maintains his innocence.
