OE2027: RSI reaches less than 4% of foreign citizens in Portugal
The Secretary of State for Social Security stated that foreign citizens make up less than 4% of the total beneficiaries of the Social Insertion Income (RSI) in Portugal. Among the foreign recipients, one-third are Ukrainian citizens who arrived in 2022. Currently, there are 6,500 foreign beneficiaries out of approximately 190,000 total recipients. The Secretary clarified that foreign citizens are not a burden on the support system and emphasized the requirement of over one year of residency for foreign recipients. Additionally, there has been an increase in the number of foster families since 2024, with plans to extend this support to the elderly.
