Szilveszter Ókovács will not accept his dismissal and wants to sue
Szilveszter Ókovács, the dismissed director of the Hungarian State Opera, claims he was unfairly removed due to a ministry investigation revealing irregularities. The Ministry of Culture stated that Ókovács received unauthorized bonuses and failed to appoint a music director since 2023. Ókovács defended his actions, stating he distributed tasks among colleagues and denied any wrongdoing regarding the verification of performance tasks. He also mentioned discrepancies in his reported salary and emphasized that the ministry halted contracts for conductors during the investigation. Ókovács plans to contest his dismissal legally.
