Research center Bioscape will also not come to Science Park Niel: "The plug is pulled"
The Bioscape research center for pharmaceuticals will not be built in the Science Park in Niel, as the Antwerp provincial government confirmed that the project has been abandoned. This decision follows the failure of the project at UZA in Edegem due to a revoked environmental permit and economic challenges. Both the University of Antwerp and the Voka entrepreneurs' organization expressed disappointment, noting that the distance to the Vaccinopolis research center was likely a factor. The loss of this project means the region will miss out on 500 potential jobs, prompting calls for a review of the permitting process to prevent such delays in the future.
