"Unseen": Nearly 3 out of 10 machines in Belgian factories are idle

The Belgian industry is facing significant challenges, with nearly 30% of machines currently idle. The National Bank of Belgium reports a production capacity utilization rate of 73%, the lowest since April 2020. This decline is particularly pronounced in Wallonia, where utilization is at 67.1%. The metal and chemical sectors are notably affected, with high energy costs and low demand leading to job losses. Experts warn that if the situation does not improve, further job cuts are likely. Calls for urgent measures to address high costs and improve competitiveness are growing, as the crisis deepens across Europe.
