UN urges the next Israeli government to "change course"

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, urged the incoming Israeli government to change its militaristic approach and adhere to international law. He expressed concerns about the ongoing conflict following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which has resulted in over 74,500 deaths. Türk highlighted the need for the UN to continue monitoring human rights violations in Gaza, the West Bank, and other regions, while also addressing the actions of Hamas and Palestinian authorities. The recent Israeli elections have resulted in a fragmented parliament, with no party achieving the majority needed to form a government.
