Afghans washed ashore on Texel victims of human smuggler
Two Afghan men whose body parts washed ashore in Texel were victims of a human smuggling network led by Idriss Ghazi Kareem. Kareem, sentenced to fifteen years in prison for smuggling, maintained operations even while incarcerated. Investigations revealed his connections to the Netherlands, including a relative overseeing boat operations. The men, Samiullah and Ahmad Jan, drowned after their unfit rubber boat sank during a crossing attempt to England. Following the incident, French authorities uncovered Kareem's extensive smuggling operations, highlighting the Netherlands' role in facilitating migrant transport across the Channel. The Dutch prosecution emphasizes the smugglers' awareness of the dangers involved, treating human lives as secondary to profit.
