Operation Marquês: Sócrates asks the court to clarify contradictions regarding the School Park
Former Prime Minister José Sócrates has requested the court to clarify contradictions between the dismissal of the Parque Escolar case and the accusations in the Operação Marquês trial. He argues that the dismissal should influence the assessment of his criminal responsibility. The Public Prosecutor's Office recently archived the investigation into Parque Escolar, which was initiated in 2012 for corruption and other charges, where Sócrates was not implicated. However, he is accused in the Operação Marquês of receiving money to benefit the Lena group in public works. Sócrates claims these allegations have unjustly harmed his reputation. He is currently on trial for 22 crimes, including corruption, with 21 co-defendants denying the charges against them.
