Opponents of lithium extraction in Boticas repeat blockade of Savannah's work
Opponents of lithium extraction in Covas do Barroso, Boticas, have resumed their blockade of Savannah's operations, emphasizing their commitment to protect their community and way of life. Approximately 30 protesters formed a human chain to halt drilling activities, expressing concerns about the environmental impact and potential displacement caused by the mining project. Local leaders criticized the government's actions and the European Union's lack of support for rural populations. The project, authorized by the Portuguese Environment Agency, aims to begin construction in 2027, with production expected in 2028.
