Viktor Orbán: They tried to recruit me
Viktor Orbán revealed that during his military service, he was approached for recruitment but refused. Following this, he and his family were allegedly under constant surveillance by state security. A previously classified report confirms that he was monitored for recruitment purposes in 1982. Historian Krisztián Ungváry commented on the claims regarding Orbán's past, suggesting that while it is possible he had agent duties, evidence is needed to substantiate this. He criticized the reliability of statements made by former Prime Minister Miklós Németh about the agent list being solely in Moscow. Ungváry argued that Orbán's actions over the past sixteen years are more morally questionable than any alleged past as an agent.
