Due to Orbán's illegal move, Mol can claim back 133 billion forints in taxes from the state
MOL is seeking a refund of 133 billion HUF in previously paid carbon dioxide quota taxes from the tax authority. The company and its subsidiaries have submitted requests for reimbursement based on new legal frameworks after withdrawing from ongoing lawsuits. This follows a ruling by the European Court that deemed the CO2 tax introduced in 2023 as potentially contrary to EU law. The Hungarian government announced the abolition of this tax, allowing affected companies to reclaim funds within 90 days. The Finance Ministry estimates a total refund of 289 billion HUF due to the retroactive repeal of the tax, impacting various sectors including oil and construction.
