Order of Physicians. There is a shortage of orthopedic surgeons at Évora hospital
The Ordem dos Médicos has raised concerns about the shortage of orthopedic doctors at the Hospital do Espírito Santo de Évora, which has led to the loss of its training accreditation. Currently, the hospital has only two orthopedic specialists, which is inadequate for the healthcare needs of the Central Alentejo population. The organization emphasizes the importance of a stable medical team to handle both scheduled and emergency cases effectively. The loss of training accreditation hampers the ability to attract and retain medical professionals in the region. With Évora set to become the European Capital of Culture in 2027, the demand for healthcare services is expected to increase, necessitating urgent action from health authorities to strengthen orthopedic services and ensure sustainable healthcare delivery.
